Manning Vaults to Victory at Musco Twilight XII

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Junior Nichole Manning picked up her third pole vault victory of the 2011 outdoor season and Western Illinois collected five top three finishes at Iowa's Musco Twilight XII Saturday. A tape-delay broadcast of the meet will air on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, May 8 at 6 p.m. CDT.

Manning, Western Illinois' record holder in the pole vault, cleared a height of 12-05.50 for the win. It is the third best performance in program history and just short of last weekend's mark of 12'6.00" that won SIU-Edwardsville's Gateway Classic. 

Junior Jason Crisman set personal bests in both the shot put and discus throw. In the shot put, Crisman recorded the fifth best throw in program history (55-07.75) for a second place finish. In the discus throw, he easily bested his previous personal best of 158' 5" set at the 2011 Lee Calhoun Invitational while placing sixth (165-08).    

Senior Nikki Klier placed third in the 200-meter dash and set a personal best with a time of 24.88. She also ran the fifth fastest 400-meter dash time in program history (55.73) and placed fifth overall in the event.     

Junior Dana LaRue placed third in the shot put with a personal best. Her throw of 46-01.50 is the fifth best in program history and eclipses her previous personal best of 45'08.00" set at the 2009 Summit League Championships. Elsewhere in throws action, junior Lizzy Jones placed fourth in the discus throw. Jones throw of 145-02 is the tenth best mark in program history and a personal best.     

Sophomore Chelsea Lynes also cracked the program's top ten in the women's 800-meter run. Lynes placed fourth overall with the ninth fastest time in program history, 2:14.02. Earlier this season, Lynes set a personal best in the 800-meter run (2:13.68) at the EIU Big Blue Classic.

Senior Tyler Buckles finished third in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:24.87. Buckles' personal best of 15:04.85 set at the 2010 Summit League Championships is the ninth fastest mark in program history.  

Sophomore Davin Dollison placed fifth in his first triple jump event of the outdoor season with of leap of 46-02.50. Meanwhile sophomore Zach Glasebrook finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21-08.75. 

The Western Illinois track and field squads will compete next at Monmouth College on Tuesday, April 26.
