MACOMB,IL –Western Illinois track and field turned in a strong showing at the Iowa Open highlighted by event titles, personal records and continued growth throughout the team.
Senior Rayvon Wright led the way with a dominant day in the jumps, winning the triple jump with a mark of 14.30m (46-11.00) and adding a runner-up finish in the high jump at 1.95m (6-4.75). In the vault, senior Arnie Grunert cleared 5.10m (16-8.75) to claim first place in the men's pole vault, while freshman Nathan McLoughlin followed with a season-best clearance of 4.90m to finish second.
On the track, freshman Kenneth Cooley continued his strong debut season, clocking a personal-best 22.14 in the 200 meters. DonPaul Kieth paced the Leathernecks in the 60-meter prelims with a 7.07, while the women's sprints were led by senior Mya Hippolyte (7.92) and freshman Rhianna Davis (7.95).
The distance group added several personal-best performances, including Brody Harker in the 800 meters (2:00.63) and Eason Comer in the mile (4:31.21). On the women's side, Marissa Shute recorded a personal-best 11:23.27 in the 3000 meters.
In the field events, freshman Kamaya McDuffy delivered a personal-best 11.36m in the shot put, and Nakeita Kessling contributed in the horizontal jumps with a top-10 finish in the triple jump.
The meet closed on a high note as the women's 4x400-meter relay team posted a season-best 3:57.52 to secure the event win, capping off a day filled with momentum for the Leathernecks.
