EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Junior Jason Crisman (men's shot put) and junior Nichole Manning
(women's pole vault) posted impressive victories and Western Illinois picked up
five wins overall Saturday at
SIU-Edwardsville's Gateway Classic.
Manning cleared a height of
12'6.00" on the way to her second victory of the outdoor season in the
women's pole vault. It is the second best performance in program history
and is only behind Manning's personal-best mark of 12'11.50” set in
2009.
Crisman set a personal best and rose up the Western Illinois all-time list in his men's shot put victory. Crisman's
throw of 53'8.88" is the sixth best performance in program history and
eclipses his previous personal-best of 52'9.50” set last season. Crisman
also placed second in the discus throw
(154'5.14").
The duo of senior Jessica Ortega and junior Lizzy Jones was impressive in the women's hammer throw.
Ortega won the event with a personal-best throw of 163'8.56" which is
the sixth best performance in program history. Jones placed second with a personal-best and the seventh best
throw in school history (163'1.48").
Elsewhere in throws action, junior Dana LaRue placed second in the women's shot put (44'7.82"), junior Paul Hames finished second in the men's hammer throw (174'10.42") and
freshman Nathaniel Marshall set a personal best with a third place
finish in the men's hammer throw (169'11.37").
In jumps action,
sophomore Zach Glasebrook picked up his second long jump victory of the
outdoor season with a leap of 21'4.69". Meanwhile sophomore Jamario Taylor and freshman Michael Crabtree shared a win in the men's high jump
after both clearing a height of 6-04.00.
The Western Illinois
track and field squads will compete next at the Musco Twilight XII on
the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, April 23.
