MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois Men's Tennis team is back at home this weekend when it plays host to Saint Louis in a non-league match at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Fighting Leathernecks (7-11) took all three of their matches in Summit League play last weekend and sit on top of the league standings with three league matches remaining.
Patrick Hammers earned Summit League "Player of the Week" honors after finishing last week undefeated (4-0) at No. 3 singles while going 2-1 with teammate Ben Yue at No. 3 doubles.
Alejandro Buceta, Jeff Cote and Mandela Shepard were also undefeated over the weekend in singles play to help the Leathernecks get off to their best start in Summit League play since the 2008 season.
Saint Louis (4-8) entered the week on a four-match losing streak and has just one win in its last nine matches. The Billikens will face Xavier today (April 1) before making the trip to Macomb.
Western Illinois fell to Saint Louis when the teams last met on Feb. 19, 2010. The Leathernecks' last win over the Billikens came on April 1, 2006 in Macomb.
