FORT MEYERS, Fla. - The Leatherneck women's golf team opened competition in the 34th annual Pat Bradley Invitational Sunday and sit 14th after shooting an opening-round of 332. Florida International is playing host to the three-day event at the Pelican Preserve Golf Club.
Through the opening round, Western Illinois is led by junior Alexa Arent who sits tied for 45th. Arent finished the opening round with an 80. Sophomore Kristi Tschudin shot the team's second-best score with an 82, placing her T58th.
The three freshmen in Western's lineup round-out the teams score. Nikki Tatham carded an 83 (T62rd), Jessica Knepp finished with an 87 (T72), and Ashley Jeffers shot a first-round 91 (79th).
Freshman Abby Ball is competing individually in the invite, and finished the first round with 84 and sits tied for 64th.
Boston College, North Texas and Eastern Michigan sit atop the rankings after round one, while Eastern Michigan's Meredith Fairbairn and Florida Gulf Coast's Fabienne Haremza sit tied for first, each having shot an even 72.
The 15-team field is made up of: Western Illinois, Bethune Cookman, Boston College, Bradley, Cincinnati, Daytona State College, Delaware, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, North Texas, Southern Texas and Stetson.
The Leathernecks will continue action in the Pat Bradley Invitational tomorrow morning (Oct. 24).
