Leatherneck Women Win Second Consecutive Tournament

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The women's golf team continued fall play and their winning ways with a victory at the SIUE Intercollegiate presented by DoubleTree on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

The Leathernecks held on to their day one lead and pulled away from the field with a team score of 632. Emily Brink notched her best career-finish with a second place finish and shot a 153 (79,74).

"She has really battled and shown great improvement," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "Emily has won our Determination Award two years in a row."

Claire Gursh carded a 159 (77,82) to finish in a tie for fourth place.

The next three players all shot a 162 and tied for sixth place. Tara Peterman shot an 80 and followed it up with an 82. Kristi Tschudin recorded a day one 79 and a day two 83. Lindsay Wandrey used 83 shots the first round and 79 shots during her second round of play.

Alexa Arent participated the tournament as an individual and finished with 170 (86,84), tied for 21st.

"We found a variety of ways to be successful today and showed some mental toughness," continued Lukkarinen. "Golf is an interesting game because you are on your own out there but there is a sense of support from your teammates and we have a great support system."

The women have won three out of their last four tournaments dating back to last year.

"I expected a certain level of play and we are close to being where we want but we are still not a finished product" "We are proud of Emily and excited about where we are at right now as a team."

The Fighting Leathernecks will look to improve on a third place finish at the Butler Invitational. They travel to Indianapolis, Ind. on Oct. 4-5.
