Women's Golf Finishes Fall Season at NIU Huskie Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - The Leatherneck women's golf program wrapped up fall play this afternoon at the NIU Huskie Classic. The women finished tied for fourth with a 622 (313, 309).

Alexa Arent was impressive as she strung together rounds of 78 and a career-low 75 to tie for ninth place. It is her fourth career top 10 finish.

"It is nice to see Alexa finish the fall on a high note," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "She has really come along as a solid player and shows how deep our roster can be."

"Overall, I would have to give our fall season an A or A-minus. We need to seize more opportunities to continue to shoot lower scores and keep improving as a unit.

"We will work on a few things in the next few days while the weather allows us to get on the course."

Tara Peterman was steady as always with two rounds of 77 to notch another top 10 finish. She finished in the top 10 in every tournament this fall. Peterman has 11 top 10 finishes for her career.

Emily Brink finished the Classic with a 157 (77,80) to tie for 19th. Claire Gursh carded a 159 (81,78) and placed 26th.

Kristi Tschudin rounded out the Leatherneck attack with 164 (85,79) to tie for 42nd.

Lindsay Wandrey was the tournament's top individual with a 154 (80, 74). The round of 74 ties a career low which she has done three times. Wandrey finished the tournament tied with Peterman for ninth place and this is her sixth career top 10 finish.

Samantha Hainline carded a 160 (79,81) to finish tied for 27th and Nerissa Hetzel concluded the tournament tied for 42nd with a 164 (80,84).

Brown University won the tournament with a 611 (315, 296) and also had the lowest individual in Carly Anderson who fired a 150 (75, 75). In a congested leaderboard, Anderson finished just three strokes better than Arent and four strokes better than Peterman.

The Leathernecks will return to action in the spring of 2011. Check back during the winter for a complete Spring schedule.
