Men's tennis falls at UW-Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis.  -  The Western Illinois men's tennis team fell 7-0 to UW-Green Bay, Sunday, after opening the season with a loss at Marquette, Saturday.

"It was a tough weekend overall, but I am definitely encouraged by the team's play," Western Illinois head tennis coach Michael Hunt said. "They improved from the Marquette match to the Green Bay one. If they will continue to improve each match at this level, they can do big things. Of course, the season has just started and we don't have a lot of data to go on, but I like our potential."

Junior Jeff Cote teamed up with freshman Patrick Hammers at No. 1 doubles, suffering an 8-5 loss to Fabian Gogolin and Henning Jess. Cote fell in three sets to Gogolin in No. 1 singles play, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (7). Hammers and Jim Capalbo each battled to three sets at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles, respectively. Neither player could pull out the win.

The Western Illinois men's tennis team resumes competition at Illinois State, Saturday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m.
