INDIANAPOLIS – The Western Illinois men's tennis team finished its conference cluster this weekend 3-0 after Saturday's 4-1 win over Valparaiso.
Senior Justin Junck finished off the weekend undefeated in singles and doubles play, with a 6-3, 7-5, win at No. 2 singles and an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles with partner Josh Wittenberg. Junck previously defeated UMKC's Pat Smith at No. 2 singles and Richard Harrison and Smith at No. 1 doubles, and then defeated Centenary College's Alejandro Ahuja at No. 1 singles and Ahuja and Mark Rodgman at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 1 singles, junior Martin Boström defeated Valparaiso's Nic Kooyers 6-1, 6-1, while senior Drew Forsberg defeated Mike Wagner, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
The Leathernecks (13-7, 3-0 Mid-Continent Conference) took the doubles point with help from Boström and Forsberg taking the win at the No. 3 position 8-0.
Next weekend, April 20 and 21, the Leathernecks finish conference competition in Shreveport, La., against Oral Roberts and IUPUI.
