December 2018 was a specular month for Western Illinois’ Taylor Higginbotham, who jumped to second all-time on the Leathernecks’ career scoring list, while also ascending to the ‘Top 6’ in steals and rebounds. For her efforts, she was named The Summit League Player of the Week (Dec. 22) as well as the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Month.

The lone senior on the Leathernecks' 2018-19 roster currently has 1,580 points and ranks fifth all-time in steals (218) and sixth in rebounds (698). She finished the month of December with three double-doubles, assisting her team to three wins including its first league victory of the season in an 87-78 decision over Denver.

Why did you choose to attend Western Illinois?
I chose Western Illinois because the day I came on my visit I was able to meet many of the people that I would be surrounded by, and they all immediately made it feel like home. I knew it would be a great place to make my dreams of playing at the Division I level come true.

When arriving as a freshman, did you ever think it possible that you'd sit in the top 10 of so many WIU records (points, rebounds, steals)?
As a freshman and every year since I have just tried to work as hard as possible to be the best player and teammate that I could be. Being surrounded by such awesome teammates and coaches that believed in me and told me the sky is the limit is what got me here! Back then, I had no idea I could get to where I am.

What has been the most memorable moment of your Leatherneck career so far?
The most memorable moment is without a doubt the conference tournament championship game when Taylor Hanneman hit the 3-pointer to send us into overtime which led to a Leatherneck win as we punched our ticket to the NCAA Tournament. There is no feeling like the ones I had that day!

Where's your favorite place to eat in Macomb?
My favorite place to eat in Macomb would be Vitale's Restaurant and Pizzeria. It's such a delicious hometown Italian place; the food has never let me down there including pasta dishes and pizza!

What are your post-graduate plans?
After graduating from WIU, I plan to attend graduate school for physical therapy; however, where that will be is still being decided.

Do you have a hobby, outside of playing basketball?
One hobby that I have is hiking, although I do not get the chance to do it all that often. I love the mountains and hope to take more trips to places like Colorado, Utah, and Montana.

What are three words you would use to describe your personality?
Three words to describe my personality could be personable, kind and determined.
