Western Illinois women's basketball player Ashley Luke (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) has been named Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week Monday (Feb. 2) for her performance on the court this past week, and continued success in the classroom.
Luke helped lead the Leathernecks to a pair of Summit League victories over IUPUI and Fort Wayne. Against the Jaguars, Luke recorded a double-double (23 points/10 rebounds). The junior followed the performance with another double-double against the Mastodons. Luke, who finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds, was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line, including the game clinching free throws with 2.2 seconds left. the 14-of-14 effort is the second best showing from the free throw line in program history, with Luke's 17-of-17 showing against Southeast Missouri last season being the only better performance.
Luke's pair of double-doubles give her 13 on the season, while Luke extended her streak of games in double figures to 59 straight consecutive games.
Luke graduated in December with a 4.0 GPA and degrees in Political Science and Journalism. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Political Science.
