Senior running back J.C. Baker (Yuma, Ariz.) was named the Papa John's 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' for his efforts last weekend at South Dakota.
Baker rushed for a game-high 118 yards (averaging 5.6 yards per carry) and caught three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown in the 44-29 victory. One of Baker's receptions was a 22-yard touchdown during the second quarter.
On his final carry of the game, which went for 15 yards, Baker surpassed 1,000 rushing yards this season. He became the fifth Leatherneck all-time to reach the 1,000-yard mark in consecutive seasons. He ranks fifth all-time with 12 100-yard rushing games (ninth all-time with 2,154 yards).
Baker carries a 3.001 GPA majoring in General Studies.
