MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's soccer team battled throughout Monday's match against Quincy, but ultimately fell 1-0.

The Leathernecks came out ready to compete and continued to work hard throughout the 90 minutes. After going into halftime down, Western Illinois put together a stronger second half and created more opportunities, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

"The ladies wanted to do the right things, they worked hard, ran plenty," said [Coach Name]. "Our execution was off, and some of the tactical things we've been working on didn't come to fruition. The second half was better in many ways, but the mountain we left ourselves was too much to conquer today."

There were also plenty of positives to take away, including strong minutes from freshman Karley Darago and several players who have seen limited action in the previous exhibition game. 

"It was great to see our freshman come in and make an impact," said Coach Henderson. "Karley stepped up to the plate today along with many more who haven't had many minutes so far. The group is strong and courageous."

The Leathernecks will look to bounce back Wednesday when they take on Indiana State

"I fully believe in this group," said Coach Henderson. "They're united, eager and willing. We have many games ahead to make the climb and be proud of who we are on the field."

Western Illinois takes on Indiana State Wednesday at 1 PM at John Mackenzie Alumni Field.
