Macomb, IL - The Western Illinois Women's Golf team kicks off their spring season at the 7th Annual Lamar Cardinal Challenge, hosted by Lamar University. The Leathernecks will hit the road to Beaumont, Texas.
Previously
Western Illinois last competed in the Braun Intercollegiate on October 21, where the Leathernecks posted team scores of 357 and 359 to finish with a 716 (+140). Sophia Thorne led the way across both rounds, pacing WIU with consistent play, while Dina Khvastovic also turned in a strong performance. Libby Larkin and Cianna Law rounded out the lineup as the Leathernecks showed steady play across the tournament.
OVC Season Predictions
The Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason poll and Players to Watch list ahead of the 2025-26 season, with Western Illinois Leathernecks picked to finish ninth with 12 points. The Morehead State Eagles were selected as the preseason favorite with 63 points and seven first-place votes, followed by the Little Rock Trojans and the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in second and third. Sophomore Sophia Thorne earned recognition on the OVC Players to Watch list after a strong performance last season for the Leathernecks.

The Lamar Cardinal Challenge is held on the Beaumont Golf Course. The course is a par 72 with 18 rounds that plays 6,703 yards. The Lamar Cardinal Challenge is a two-round tournament that will kick off Monday morning.
