Nicastro Named Player of the Week After Dominant Two-Game Stretch

MACOMB, Ill. -  After a dominant two-game performance, Western Illinois' Mia Nicastro has been named Player of the Week, highlighted by back-to-back standout outings against SIUE and Lindenwood.

Nicastro averaged 31.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 53.3 percent (24-of-45) from the field across the two contests. She was nearly automatic from the free-throw line, going a perfect 11-for-11 (100 percent), and knocked down 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from three-point range.

The sophomore guard opened the week with a career-best 36-point performance at SIUE, shooting 14-of-19 from the field (.737) and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. She added five rebounds, five steals and two assists in 37 minutes of action, leading WIU with her efficient scoring and defensive presence.

Nicastro followed up with 27 points and a game-high 13 rebounds against Lindenwood, recording a double-double while playing nearly 40 minutes. She added two steals and a block, helping anchor the Leathernecks on both ends of the floor.

Over the two games, Nicastro totaled 63 points, 18 rebounds, six steals and just three turnovers in 77 minutes of play. She averaged 38.5 minutes per game and consistently set the tone offensively, while contributing across the stat sheet with 1.0 assists and 0.5 blocks per game.

Nicastro's all-around performance and scoring efficiency were instrumental in Western Illinois' success during the week, earning her conference Player of the Week honors.
