MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois women's bowling team continued to build momentum this weekend at the 2025 Windy City Classic, turning in one of their most connected team performances of the season against a competitive field that included several nationally-ranked opponents.
Western showed clear growth across all three days, steadily improving scores and execution to climb into the upper half of the bracket. The Leathernecks carried a strong close to Saturday's traditional games into Sunday's bracket play, ultimately finishing 9th overall and ending the weekend with confidence.
Freshman Angela Steinke led the charge for Western, delivering one of the most consistent individual showings of the tournament and finishing 17th overall out of more than 100 bowlers. Sophomore Maleena Moreno added another strong weekend of production, while sophomore Heather Walker and senioe Melina Eresbey each came through in key stretches with timely adjustments and reliable shotmaking.
The Leathernecks also saw a boost from Jaydyn Hunting, whose steady presence in transition helped stabilize the lineup and keep momentum rolling during close matches.
Beyond the pin counts, Western's communication, lane reading, and ability to respond to pressure moments took meaningful steps forward throughout the event. Saturday's stretch of improving scores highlighted that progress and played a key role in setting up Sunday's finish.
The Leathernecks now look to build on this performance as they return to action November 14th at the McKendree Bearcat Invitational.
