Leatherneck Track & Field Competes at Fighting Illini Open

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Western Illinois Track and Field team delivered several standout performances at Saturday's Fighting Illini Open, highlighted by multiple personal bests and a tie for second in the school record book.

Dana Surwillo led the way for the Leathernecks by not only setting a new personal best but also making her mark in the record books. Surwillo's vault of 3.88 meters in the women's pole vault earned her third place overall for the event at the Fighting Illini Open, and tied the second-highest pole vault jump in Western Illinois University Women's Indoor Track and Field program history.

Mia Harris was another notable field athlete for the women's team on Saturday. Harris delivered an impressive performance in the women's high jump, securing first place with a jump of 1.55 meters. This not only earned her the top spot but also set a new personal best.

Two-sport athlete Toriano Tate finished in 2nd place in the long jump, jumping of 7.14 meters. Rayvon Wright placed third in the high jump on Saturday with a jump of 1.95 meters.

Edward Clark set a new personal record in the men's 60 meter final, clocking an impressive time of 6.95 seconds. His performance earned him a well-deserved spot on the podium, finishing second at the meet.

The Leathernecks will look to carry this momentum into their next competition, as they head to the University of Iowa for the Hawkeye Invitational on January 18.
