Leathernecks Close out Regular Season at Iowa State

Lommel Sets New Record in 1500

AMES, Iowa – In the final meet of the regular season, Western Illinois' Logan Lommel looked more than postseason ready. Lommel set another program record, this time in the 1500, topping his previous record.

At the Iowa State Alumni Open on Friday, Lommel covered the 1500 in 3:47.60, besting his previous top time of 3:48.31, set last season.

Also on the track, Sophia Myers started the evening for the Leathernecks, finishing second in the 100 hurdles. Myers crossed the finish line in 14.24. In the women's 400, Nakeita Kessling and Monique Remy went two-three. Kessling finished in 58.33 while Remy was third in 59.53. In the women's 100, Briza Dure just missed out on the program's top 10 list, winning the event in 12.19. Savannah Harvey was right behind her in second, finishing in 12.26.

In the men's 100, Lucas Burmeister finished second. The Western Illinois sophomore crossed in 11.11.
Aliyah Adams finished third in the women's 200, crossing in 24.92. Dure was fourth in 24.95. In the men's 800, Isaac Jones added a second, finishing in 1:52.05.

In the field, Arnie Grunert looked more than postseason ready as well, once again going over 17 feet. Down to his final attempt at 17 feet, one inch, Grunert cleared the height. Grunert attempted to top his program record of 17-4.5 but missed at 17-5.

In the women's long jump, Aliyah Adams only needed one attempt to lock up the win. In her first effort, Adams had a meet best performance of 19 feet, four inches to claim the win. Dure finished third with a best effort of 17-8.25.

In the women's pole vault, Colleen Johnson had a big day for the Leathernecks, taking the event. Johnson set a new personal-best in the event, clearing 12-2.5. The freshman moves into a tie for fifth all-time in program history.

In the men's long jump, Cage Davison took home the top spot. Davison jumped 23-2.75 in his first effort to post his top jump. In the women's triple jump, freshman Kelsey Hutchins took home the top spot with a best of 37-4. Nakeita Kessling finished second with a best leap of 36-10.5. In the women's high jump, Mia Harris took home top honors, clearing 5-1.
