Leatherneck Tennis Signs Three

WIU adds trio for next fall

MACOMB – Western Illinois women's tennis coach Luke Ogren announced the addition of three new student-athletes to his roster starting in the Fall of 2024.
Joining the Leathernecks next fall as freshmen are Rebecca Jouzy, Richardlyne Francois, and Denver Johnson.
 
"These 3 are great additions to our team for the future," coach Luke Ogren said. "They bring a high level of tennis as well as great academics and sportsmanship. With us graduating four seniors, there is a lot of potential for them to contribute right away and make a big difference for us moving forward. We are extremely excited to get them on campus and have them help us climb to the top of the OVC."
 
Denver Johnson, Avon, Ohio
Johnson comes to Western Illinois from Avon, Ohio. While in high school, Johnson was a four-time all-conference selection as well as a four-time conference champion. She was also a three-time district qualifier and a two-time team and conference MVP. She was twice named Chronicle and Morning Journal Player of the Year and received the Coaches and Sportsmanship Award. She is her program's all-time singles wins leader, winning 100 matches. Her best National Ranking is 472. She also has a UTR Best of 6.86.

In the classroom, Johnson received the Merit Academic Award all four years of high school and is part of the National Honors Society.
 
 
Richardlyne Francois, Columbus, Ohio

Originally from Haiti, Francois joins the Leathernecks after attending New Albany High School in Columbus, Ohio.
While in high school, Francois was named team Most Valuable Player. She was also Conference Player of the Year, a two-time state runner-up in doubles and a district champion in doubles in 2023. She was also named a two-time First Team All Ohio Player. Francois also had a high national ranking of 143 and an International Tennis Federation (ITF) ranking of 1688. She also has a Best UTR of 8 and WTN of 19.4.

In the classroom, Francois was an Honor Roll student all four years of high school. 
 
 
Rebecca Jouzy, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Jouzy comes to Western Illinois as a heralded player from Canada.

While in Canada, Jouzy had a best National Ranking of No. 35 in the U16 Class and a best of No. 52 in U18. Her best International Tennis Federation ranking is 1490.
Jouzy also received the Ed Siemens Bursary Award for High Performance Junior.

On the court, Jouzy won the Burnaby Women's Open and Women's Doubles Open championship in 2023. She was also the U18 Provincial Doubles champion in 2023, and was a finalist in the Surrey Mixed Doubles Open.

In 2022, she captured the Surrey Women's Open Championship, the U16 Stanley Park National Junior Open Series Championship, was a U18 Outdoor Provincial Singles and Doubles Open finalist and a U16 Provincial Singles Finalist. Jouzy also had a UTR singles rating of 8.26 and a WTN Singles ranking for 21.2.
