Leathernecks Set for OVC Match at Lindenwood

Last Time Out | Western Illinois headed to Missouri State for the Bear Invitational this past weekend. The Leathernecks fell in both of their matches over the weekend, falling in four sets to Arkansas State and five sets to host Missouri State. Keyana Cruse led the Leathernecks with 31 kills.

1,000 Dig Club | Karli Wenzel was introduced into the 1,000 Dig Club this week. The junior posted 35 digs at Missouri State, putting her at 1,005 career digs. 

Starting On Track | Western Illinois's win against SIUE on September 9th night marked the first OVC win in program history and the first OVC win for any team on the Western Illinois campus. WIU's win against SIUE also marked the first conference win for the Leathernecks since Nov. 20, 2021.

Two-Headed Attack | Keyana Cruse and Brittany Wulf have led the Leatherneck offense in the last two weeks. Cruse and Wulf posted 31 and 29 kills in the two-match tournament at the Bear Invitational. The weekend prior, they posted over 45 kills, with Wulf posting 45 and Cruse having 64.

Team Blocking | The Leathernecks have out-blocked their opponents by nine blocks in both of the past weekends. WIU had 23 total blocks at the Bear Invitational compared to their opponents' 12. Grace Kremer, Julianna Schmidt, and Keyana Cruse all contributed, averaging over a block per set. Schmidt led the way with three solo blocks for the Leathernecks.

Dishing out Assists | Maggie Craker had another impressive weekend in the setter role. The junior from Chippewa Falls dished out 82 assists, averaging over 9.11 assists per set. Craker set a new career high with 56  assists against Missouri State.

Scouting Lindenwood | Lindenwood is set to play in their first OVC match of the season. The Lions went 8-10 in OVC play a season ago. Jessie Seidel was named an OVC Co-Defensive Player this past week. Seidel posted 55 digs, averaging 6.88 digs per set at the Bear Invitational.
