MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois Volleyball team has their second weekend of games at the SDSU Invitational presented by Canine Country Club on September 4th and 5th, with matches against South Dakota State, Bradley, and Northern Arizona.
The Leathernecks are coming off of a weekend at the Mizzou Invitational, where the team had an 0-3 record.
Friday
The first game for the Leathernecks will be played against South Dakota State, a team who has started their season 1-2, with losses against Villanova and Pepperdine, but having a win against Sacramento State to start the season. These teams have met plenty of times in the past, with South Dakota State holding a 24-11 series lead, as well as winning the last 7 matches against the Leathernecks.
The second game for Western Illinois of the day, as well as of the Invitational, is against Bradley. Bradley has started out the season 2-1, with wins against Binghamton and Oakland, and their lone loss to Toledo. These teams have also met very often in the past, with Bradley holding a 26-16 series lead, and the last Leatherneck win in the series coming in 2015.
Saturday
The last game of the weekend will be against Northern Arizona, a team who is 1-2 on the season. Their lone win is against Southeastern Louisiana, and their losses are against Ole Miss and LMU. Saturday will mark the last day of the invitational, and this match will be the first of its kind between Western Illinois and Northern Arizona.
Western Illinois is hoping to come back this weekend and get into the win column, to help build momentum as they get closer to the beginning of OVC conference play.All games involving SDSU will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
