Personal Branding Expert Will Baggett Shares Insights with Leathernecks

| By:

In a dynamic event that promised to empower and enlighten, Western Illinois University Athletics welcomed guest speaker Will Baggett to campus on Tuesday night. Baggett's engaging presentation centered around the profound impact social media can have on personal branding and career development. The event, attended by student-athletes, coaches, and staff, left an impression on those who participated.

"Will gave the most interpersonal seminar we have had this year," said junior Women's Soccer student-athlete, Rachel Balinao. "My biggest takeaway was putting into perspective to check on those around me. Social media can be fake and a teammate or friend could be struggling but the simplest thing you can do is reach out and ask them "Hey how are you doing?" Will made a great impact on WIU athletes on Tuesday."

Senior football student-athlete Anthony Quinney said, ""I thought [Will] was very inspirational, motivating, and entertaining. He gave us life long lessons about how to interact with people and communication skills. His mentality is that he can not be stopped unless he stops himself, which will help me on and off the field for the rest of my life."

Baggett, a renowned expert in the field of personal branding and a passionate advocate for college athletes, shared invaluable insights during his talk. He emphasized the potential for athletes to harness the influence of social media to enhance their personal brands, both during their collegiate careers and beyond. With relatable anecdotes and practical advice, Baggett guided student-athletes through the nuances of creating a positive personal brand, while also addressing the responsibilities and challenges that come with using social media platforms.

"In today's society, your social media account is your personal brand for those who do not know you, so you want to make sure everything you post is how you want people to perceive you," said sophomore Women's Golf student-athlete Mia Skyla Scrimgeour. "Overall, Will's presentation helped me, and I'm sure a ton of other athletes, look at personal branding and social media in a different light."

Scrimgeour went on to say that she learned various ways that social media can be used as an advantage if used correctly. She stated that what she learned from Baggett's presentation "will stick with her for years."

The event is a testament to Western Illinois University Athletics' commitment to providing holistic development opportunities for its student-athletes. It encouraged them to become informed, responsible, and impactful digital citizens, understanding the far-reaching impact of their online presence. Baggett's visit was not just an event but a valuable educational experience that will undoubtedly shape the future of WIU's student-athletes as they navigate their sports careers and personal journeys.
