Summit League Releases 2022-23 Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence

WIU tennis leads the way; 62 Leatherneck student-athletes honored

Western Illinois University student-athletes were honored again by the Summit League as 62 individuals were named to the Summit League's Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. Western Illinois officially had 68 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence selections.

On top of the individual honors, the Leatherneck women's tennis team also earned high marks, being named to the Summit League's List of Team Academic Achievement Awards.

In total, 1,071 student-athletes earned 2022-23 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence distinction. The list includes students from last year's 10 member institutions and six associate members competing in 17 different sports. The list honors student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom during this past academic year.
 
Qualifications
  • In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, the student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA, have used a year of eligibility and completed three full semesters or five quarters at the nominating institution.
By The Numbers
  • A total of 1,071 student-athletes across 17 sports were honored.
  • Denver received The Summit League Institutional Academic Achievement Award for the third time in program history (2016-17, 2021-22). The Pioneers had 71.1 percent of their list-eligible student-athletes earn the academic excellence distinction.
  • In addition, the league recognized Team Academic Achievement Awards for each sport based on the percentage of list-eligible student-athletes on the Commissioner's List.
