Reinicke, Oberender Named September Student-Athletes of the Month

MACOMB, IL. – Western Illinois Athletics has named football's Nick Reinicke and women's cross country's Karson Oberender as the September Student-Athletes of the Month.

Reinicke turned in a strong month for the Leathernecks' defense, recording 34 total tackles, including 14 solo stops and 20 assisted tackles. The junior linebacker added 5 tackles for loss and 1 sack during September, recording a sack against Illinois State.

His ability to consistently make plays behind the line of scrimmage helped lead the Leathernecks' defensive effort throughout September.

Oberender emerged as one of Western Illinois' top runners during the month, placing fifth at the Huskie Classic 5K with a time of 18:41.2. She followed that performance by running a personal-best 22:43.3 in the 6K at the ISU John McNichols Championship.

The freshman has finished among Western Illinois' top three runners in every meet this season, continuing to improve her times throughout the fall. Her performance at the ISU John McNichols Championship marked another step forward as she established a new personal best and continued to emerge as a key contributor for the Leathernecks.

Reinicke and Oberender will be recognized as Western Illinois' September Student-Athletes of the Month for their performances both on the field and course.
