Western Illinois track and field concludes the regular season with the Dr. Tucker Open on Saturday (May 7) in Dubuque, Iowa, hosted by Loras College. The meet will be WIU's final competition before the Summit League Outdoor Championships. The event begins with the men's and women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. Running events start at 1 p.m. with the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay. Fans can view the full schedule here.

"This weekend serves as a tune-up meet for a few individuals in the sprints and middle distance group," said Head Coach Trey Brokaw. "Most of the team is taking this weekend off in preparation for the Summit League Championships and their final exams next week."

Athlete Of The Week | Ackeen Colley is coming off a monumental win at the Drake Relays when he won the 800m. His win helped him capture his second career Summit League Outdoor Athlete of the Week award. Colley's victory was a historic mark for the Leathernecks. He is WIU's first athlete to win at the Drake Relays since Jennifer Gibson won the women's shot put in 2006, and the first male athlete since Derek Huff won the decathlon in 1986.

Two 800m Wins | Colley wasn't the only Leatherneck with an 800m win last week. Lucas Hofer took first place in the 800m at the Kip Janvrin Invitational with a time of 1:51.03. Hofer won his second event in his career and his first 800m. Hofer's time was the second-fastest 800m of his career and broke the Kip Janvrin meet record.

"Lucas will go for an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 800m. A year ago, he ran his personal best of 1:50.13 at the Conference meet," said Trey Brokaw. "I think he's more than ready for a personal best and he will need it to qualify for Regionals. Right now, it takes 1:49.86 to qualify but of course that mark will improve after the Conference Championships are held around the country here in a week. He should be confident after setting a meet record and winning the 800m at Simpson College last weekend. Lucas has a chance at the facility record this weekend in Dubuque; it's 1:50.59"

New Personal Best | Western Illinois had four athletes set new personal records at the Kip Janvrin Invitational. Logan Lommel set the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 3000m steeplechase and took fourth place overall with a time of 9:25.28. Madison Trevena finished ninth in the 5000m with a time of 17:45.34, beating her previous record by over 12 seconds. Paulina Wuestefeld set a new personal best in the 5000m at 17:56.46 to place 15th. Jasmine Stokes placed ninth in the hammer throw with a new career-best 50.44m (165' 5.9'').
