Lommel And Wuestefeld Finish With Top-10 Times In School History

The duo had historic performances in the 1500m at the Musco Twilight Invitational.

IOWA CITY, IOWA- Western Illinois track and field completed its fourth meet of the outdoor season, competing in the Musco Twilight Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa. Logan Lommel and Paulina Wuestefeld were the highlights of the meet, both ending with top-10 times in school history for the first top-10 performances of the outdoor season. "We had a great competition this weekend at the Musco Twilight. The team had some personal bests in the throws, sprints, middle distance, and distance events," said Head Coach Trey Brokaw. "Paulina and Logan led the way with huge personal bests that rank them in the top-10 in school history, Logan 10th and Paulina seventh. Those two have really stepped up to lead the team and they put themselves in a great position to be successful at the Summit League Championships in three weeks."
 
Wuestefeld had another outstanding performance in the 1500m, finishing with a new personal best of 4:34.27 to take second place. Her time is the seventh best in the women's 1500m in program history. Wuestefeld has finished in the top two in the 1500m in three straight meets.
 
WIU's freshman duo of Madison Trevena and Maleigha Huston both had top-five finishes at Iowa. Trevena took third place in the 3000m with a time of 10:19.45, and Huston took fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:14.80. Huston also competed in the 1500m and took sixth with a time of 4:50.63.
 
Briza Dure and Zwandi Harrison both had big days in the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, Dure finished in 15th with a time of 12.22 seconds, and Harrison placed 17th with a time of 12.25 seconds. Harrison took 15th in the 200m with a time of 25.13 seconds, while Dure finished right behind in 16th with a time of 25.17 seconds.
 
Ackeen Colley and Lommel had big days in Iowa City for the men's team, both ending with third-place finishes. Colley took third in the 800m with a time of 1:49.06, and Lommel finished third in the 1500m with a time of 3:54.65. Lommel's mark also put him in the record book, finishing with the 10th best time in the men's 1500m in school history.
 
Lucas Hofer and Lucas Howett also ended in the top-10 in their events. Hofer took seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:52.43, while Howett had a great day in the 3000m with a time of 9:31.38 to take eighth.
 
Kenyon'TA Skinner had his best performance in the 100m, ending with a time of 10.92 seconds to place 19th.
 
Track and field now shifts focus to one of the biggest outdoor meets in the country, competing in the Drake Relays, hosted by Drake University. WIU competes in the event from Thursday (April 28) through Saturday (April 30).
