Western Illinois track and field should have a beautiful day of competition on Saturday (April 23) as the Leathernecks head to Iowa City, Iowa, to compete in the Musco Twilight Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa. The event begins at noon with the men's and women's hammer throw. Running events begin at 1 p.m. with the men's and women's 1500m. Fans can view the full schedule of the meet here.

Words From Brokaw | "We're excited for Iowa this weekend. There are a lot of strong regionally ranked programs in attendance so it should be fun to see where we stand," said Head Coach Trey Brokaw. "We've had a lot of good performances this outdoor season so far. Many athletes are right on the cusp of a top-10 all-time performance in school history. If the wind and rain can cooperate this weekend, I'm hopeful we will see some huge personal bests."

Three Second Place Finishers | Western Illinois had three athletes take second place in their events at the Redbird Challenge last weekend. Paulina Wuestefeld was less than a second away from winning the 1500m for the second straight meet, but she still took second with a time of 4:39.93. Madison Trevena took second in the 5000m for WIU with a time of 17:57.57. On the men's side, Logan Lommel competed in his first-ever 3000 steeplechase and took second in the event with a time of 9:46.11.

Might As Well Jump | Freshman Cooper Cox had a career day in the long jump for Western Illinois, setting a new personal best at 6.67m (21' 10.56"). Cooper's distance helped him take third place overall. Tyronay Taylor also had a great competition in the women's long jump, taking third place with a distance of 5.4m (17' 8.74").

Waiting For The Hammer To Fall | Morgan Reed set a new personal best in the hammer throw in Normal with a distance of 49.16m (161' 3.48") to finish in fifth. Jasmine Stokes was just behind Reed in the event with a distance of 49m (160' 9.12") to take sixth place.

Previous Success At Iowa | The Leathernecks have a good history when competing in Iowa City, especially during the Hawkeye Invitational during the indoor season. Richard Brown and Lucas Hofer both broke WIU's record in the 600m. Brown ended with a time of 1:19.69 to become the fastest Leatherneck in the 600m. Hofer finished with the program's second all-time mark with a time of 1:20.06.

Ackeen Colley broke WIU's mile record to take first place in the mile. His time of 4:08.53 won the race, broke the oldest school record in WIU track & field history, and set the Hawkeye Invitational meet record.
