Men's and Women's Golf Look To Repeat Success At Stampede At The Creek

Western Illinois sends both golf teams to Elkhorn, Neb., for the Stampede at the Creek tournament, hosted by the University of Omaha. The Leathernecks compete in the two-day event Monday (April 11) through Tuesday (April 12) at Indian Creek Golf Club. The men will play a par 72, 7242-yard course, and the women will play a par 72, 5988-yard course.
 
Words From Coach Lia | "Both teams are looking forward to Indian Creek. It's a great mix of accuracy off the tee and some challenging Par 4's," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "Omaha is good location to prepare for potential wind and weather at Summit Championships."
 
Back From A Long Break | Women's golf competes in its first tournament since March 14-15, when they took part in the HBU Husky Invitational. Natalie Hooper led the way for Western Illinois with a score of +32 over par (248) to place t-58th overall. Hooper's best round was round two, where she shot +8 over par and shot par on seven of the nine holes on the back nine. WIU placed 14th overall as a team.
 
Previous Success | Katie Tanner and Olivia Kerr finished in the top 10 in the fall Stampede at the Creek tournament, both ending with a score of +11 over par to place t-8th. On the men's side, Wyatt Spier led the way with an overall score of +2 over par to place t-13th. Parker Govern placed 16th overall with a score of +3 over par, and Cameron Karney finished t-17th with a score of +4 over par.
 
Tournament Format | Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday. Monday will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and Tuesday will have a tee time starting at 9 a.m. The men will play a six in the lineup and count four scoring format, while the women play standard format.

Opponents | The Summit League will be represented in the men's and women's tournaments in Elkhorn, with five Summit League teams on the women's side and six on the men's side. The women's field will consist of Northern Iowa, Creighton, South Dakota State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, St Thomas, South Dakota, and host Omaha.
 
The men's field consists of Northern Iowa, Bradley, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, St Thomas, South Dakota, and Omaha.
