  • Western Illinois' losing skid was extended to eight games over the weekend after losing all three matchups to the Charlotte 49ers. Western Illinois battled hard in game one, scoring three runs late to tie the game at 3-3. A pair of doubles by Charlotte in the eighth scored the go-ahead run for the victory.
  • Leatherneck hitters have had to sacrifice their bodies early in the season. Western Illinois ranks first in the Summit League in batters hit by a pitch with 15. Catcher Adam Juran has been hit by four pitches this season and is tied as the leader in the Summit League.
  • Toby Allred's name is all over the top-10 list of Summit League offensive rankings. Allred ranks 10th in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage, and is t-fifth in doubles. The Phoenix, Ariz., native is coming off a great series at the plate versus Charlotte, where he batted 5-11 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • CJ Richmond blasted his second home run of the season on Saturday versus Charlotte and is one of just seven players in the Summit League with at least two homers this season.
  • Western Illinois' defense was nearly perfect in Charlotte, committing just one error in the three-game series. WIU raised their fielding percentage to .957 over the weekend, ranking fourth-best in the Summit League.
  • After going 0-4 in the series opener versus the 49ers, Derek Botaletto responded with a pair of multi hits games on Saturday and Sunday. Botaletto has had at least two hits in five of 10 games this season. He's t-seventh in the Summit League in total hits with 14 on the season.
Scouting the Opposition | St. Louis had a rough 1-6 record to begin the season but have strung together three straight wins. The Billikens won their four-game series to Summit League opponent Northern Colorado over the weekend. After dropping the series opener, St. Louis won the final three games, outscoring the Bears 28-8. Kyle Fitzgerald has been the top offensive player for St. Louis, batting .448 with five doubles, a home run, and seven RBIs.
