Western Illinois track and field travels to Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the Joey Haines Invitational Friday (April 1) and Saturday (April 2), hosted by Southeast Missouri State University. The event begins with the hammer throw on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT. All other events will be held Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, and running events begin at noon on Saturday. Fans can view the full schedule of events here.

"We are excited for the competition this weekend down in Cape Girardeau," said Head Coach Trey Brokaw. "The forecast looks good enough for some quality performances so it should be a lot of fun. Many of the student-athletes had solid openers last weekend in Kansas that put them just outside the top-10 in school history; Briza Duré in the 200, Logan Lommel in the 800, and Paulina Weustefeld in the 1500 are three who narrowly missed. Hopefully those three, and others, can hit a top-10 mark this weekend."

Paulina Sets New Personal Best | Paulina Wuestefeld had a pair of terrific finishes in the 1500m and 5000m at the Emporia State Relays. Wuestefeld placed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.29, and third in the 5000m with a time of 17:59.17. Her 5000m time sets a new personal best.

Taylor and Reed Showcase Experience | Redshirt Senior Tyronay Taylor represented WIU great in the triple jump in the opening outdoor meet, placing fourth overall at 11.11m (36.45 ft). Junior Morgan Reed placed in the top ten in both the shot put and hammer throws at Emporia. She took seventh in shot put with a 12.51m (41.04 ft.) throw and eighth in hammer throw with a 45.74m (150.06 ft.) throw.

Young Guns | Freshman Maleigha Huston and Madison Trevena both showed their abilities in their collegiate outdoor debuts. Huston placed 10th in the 1500m and eleventh in the 800m, while Trevena took seventh in the 5000m.

Distance Runners Lead Men's Team | The men's team saw top five finishes from four separate athletes. Lucas Hofer took third overall in the 800m with a time of 1:51.47. Richard Brown finished just behind him in fourth with a time of 1:52.78.

In the 1500m, WIU saw a third place finish from Logan Lommel with a time of 3:56.34 and a fourth place finish from Ackeen Colley with a time of 3:56.73.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Hofer, Lommel, Brown, and Colley took fifth place out of 26 teams with a time of 3:17.24.
