  • Western Illinois dropped all three games to the Little Rock Trojans over the weekend, extending their losing skid to four games.
  • Manager Andy Pascoe enters his third season as skipper of the Leathernecks. Pascoe is currently the fourth-youngest manager at the Division I level at 33 years and 207 days on opening day.
  • Coach Pascoe welcomed three new coaches to the 2022 team       
  • Leadoff man Nick Mitchell and two-hitter Kory Olsen continue to lead Western Illinois' offensive ranks. Olsen leads the team with a .417 batting average, and Mitchell is second with a .385 average. Both are on a six-game hitting streak.
  • Both players have ten hits, and Mitchell has the lone triple for WIU. Olsen is tied as the top RBI producer with five, while Mitchell is just behind him with four. Mitchell leads the team with six runs scored and has two of the squad's four stolen bases.
  • Toby Allred also serves as a major offensive weapon, tied with Olsen as the team's RBI leader with five. He leads the team in doubles with five and has the top OPS at .958, the only Leatherneck currently above .900. He has also been a gem on defense for the Leathernecks, second on the team with 38 putouts, and has helped turn three double plays.
  • Tuesday's contest will be the 51st meeting all-time between the Leathernecks and the Salukis. SIU owns the all-time series at 40-10, dating back to 1948.
 Scouting the Opposition | Southern Illinois is 6-1 on the year and on a six-game win streak after a sweep versus Central Arkansas. Southern Illinois had a historic moment in their home opener back on Feb. 22, throwing a combined no-hitter versus Austin Peay. It was the first no-hitter for the team since 1979 and their first nine-inning no-hitter since 1953.
