Ackeen Colley Breaks Summit League Record In Opening Day Of Championships

Colley was one of three Leathernecks to make Saturday's 800m Final.

GRAND FORKS, N.D.- Western Illinois track and field was well represented on the first day of the Summit League Championships. The Leathernecks saw an athlete break a Summit League record and earn a medal after day one of the championships. Results from day one can be found here. 
 
Ackeen Colley was the story for Western Illinois with his record-breaking 800m. After winning the men's 800m during last year's championships, Colley broke his own meet record after clocking a time of 1:48.41 to advance to tomorrow's finals. His previous championship meet record was set last season after he won the 800m with a time of 1:48.61.
 
Colley wasn't the only Leatherneck to qualify for tomorrow's 800m final, as Richard Brown and Lucas Hofer will join Colley in the event.
 
The men's DMR team of Colley on the 1200m, Brown on the 400m, Hofer on the 800m, and Isaiah Mooreman on the 1600m wanted to defend their victory from last season but were just a few seconds behind to take third place at 10:10.85.
 
Maleigha Huston was the anchor for the women's DMR team on the 1600m to help set the seventh-best time in school history. Along with Madison Trevena on the 1200m, Kristina Petrou on the 800m, and Zwandi Harrison on the 400m, the squad took fifth place overall with a time of 12:20.05.
 
The championships are set to resume on Saturday (Feb. 26) at 9:30 a.m. CT.
