Western Illinois baseball begins its 2022 campaign with a three-game series in Bowling Green, Ky., taking on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

  • Manager Andy Pascoe enters his third season as skipper of the Leathernecks. Pascoe is currently the fourth-youngest manager at the Division I level at 33 years and 207 days.
  • Coach Pascoe welcomed three new coaches to the 2022 team

  • Warkentien's 4.47 ERA was seventh-lowest in the Summit League last season.
  • Western Illinois was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League preseason poll.
  • Jace Warkentien was named a Summit League 'Pitcher to Watch,' and Derek Botaletto was named a Summit League 'Player to Watch.'
 
Scouting the Opposition | This weekend will also serve as the opening series for the Hilltoppers to begin their 2022 season. Western Kentucky finished last season 27-29 overall and 15-17 in conference play. WKU went 1-2 in the Conference-USA tournament last season. They had a 10-9 win over The University of Texas at San Antonio and losses to Southern Mississippi and Louisiana Tech. This will be the first series between Western Illinois and Western Kentucky.
 
Probable Starters | Friday- Jack Carberry versus Jake Kates | Saturday- Jace Warkentien versus Sean Bergeron | Sunday- Chandler Fochs versus Devyn Terbrak.
 
On Deck | Western Illinois heads back on the road for a four-game series at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (Feb. 25-27). A doubleheader will be played on Saturday.
