"Amy is one of our team leaders and captains so not only is she a talented player, she also has an important role off the field as well," Director of Soccer Eric Johnson said. "She has really improved over her three years with us and has become a threat to score in every game."

Knies started every game last season as a true freshman, finishing fourth on the team with 1,399 minutes played and playing 90 minutes or more on 11 occasions. The defender/midfielder finished the year with six shots and two on goal. The Ely, Iowa, native scored two goals in two exhibition appearances during the team's 2021 preseason.

"Angie had a really good freshmen season. She played a ton of minutes and was one of our most consistent performers in the back-line," Johnson added. "It's great to see both players get some recognition and I know they are capable of handling that pressure."

Women's soccer begins regular season play with a matchup against Nebraska on Aug. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
