First Summit League Road Series

First Pitch | After three consecutive home series to begin Summit League play, the Western Illinois baseball team heads to NDSU for the first league road trip.  

Tickets / COVID-19 Protocols | Seating is general admission and tickets may be purchased at the gate on game day. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-17 and attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks.

Headlines 
  • In game one of the Friday doubleheader, WIU rallied down five to walk it off vs. Oral Roberts 9-8. The Leathernecks have walked it off twice in league play this season. 
  • Four Leathernecks - Kevin Raisbeck (.385), Trenton Bauer (.375), Alex Dorethy (.333) and Toby Allred (.333) - started all four games vs. ORU and hit over .300. 
  • Bauer ranks in the top ten in multiple categories in the Summit - fourth in doubles (7), fifth in average (.337), hits (32), sixth in RBI (20) and seventh in sacrifice flies (2). 
  • Raisbeck has continued to bat over .300 all season, he also sits in the top ten in multiple categories in the league - third in sac bunts (3), fourth in stolen bases (9), sixth in hits (30), seventh in OBP (.413), and eighth in average (.319) and walks (13).  
  • Brett Sears tossed a complete-game shutout - 7 IP, 3 H, 3 SO - against South Dakota State on Friday (March 26) to earn his first career Summit League Pitcher of the Week honor. This is the second time a Leatherneck starter has thrown a complete-game shutout -  Chandler Fochs (March 13 vs. Saint Louis), who also earned SL POW. 
  • Western's rotation this weekend is scheduled for Chandler Fochs, Jace Warkentien, Brett Sears and Brian Raymond.
  • NDSU took the series 3-1 earlier this season to now lead the all-time series 40-38.
Scouting the Opposition | After winning the series against WIU, NDSU has split the last two league matchups against Omaha and Oral Roberts… Friday's game will serve as the home opener after 26 straight road games to start the season…as a team, the Bison lead the league in average (.275), OBP (.390), RBI (156) and stolen bases (45).  

Last Time Out | The Western Illinois baseball team (9-16, 5-7) dropped the series finale 18-5 against Oral Roberts (12-15, 5-3) on Saturday (April 3) afternoon.
 
It was a one-run (2-1, ORU) game in the sixth until a two-out error led to a six-run frame by the Golden Eagles. The visitors continued to add three more in the next inning, two in the eighth and five in the ninth. 
 
The Leatherneck bats clicked in the seventh. After an RBI single from Derek Botaletto, Adam Juran roped an RBI double down the left-field line, and Trenton Bauer concluded the four-run frame on a two-out, two-run single that made it an 11-5 game.  Western's first run of the day came off the bat of Kevin Raisbeck in the third. His RBI single continued his hitting streak to 10 games. 

On Deck | Western Illinois heads to South Dakota State (April 16-18) next weekend, followed by a trip to Omaha (April 30 - May 1).
