Scouting the Opposition | SDSU travels to Macomb with a 1-3 record in Summit League play after opening up at Omaha last weekend… in 2019, the Jackrabbits took the overall series 4-2… catcher Derek Hackman leads the Jacks at the plate batting .333 with three doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI… South Dakota State's rotation is set for Adam Mazur, Ryan Bourassa, Cody Carlson, and Owen Bishop.

Last Time Out |  The Western Illinois baseball team (5-12, 1-3) rallied in the eighth to take the series finale 9-7 over first-place North Dakota State Bison (14-4, 3-1) on Sunday (March 21) afternoon.

After NDSU tied it (2-2) in the second, WIU regained the lead, 4-2, behind a Kory Olsen double down the right-field line. Jace Warkentien erased the two runs he allowed in the first and second and shutout the Bison batters for three consecutive innings. He limited the opposition to four hits and had a season-high six strikeouts.

The visitors then tied it in the sixth (5-5) behind a two-run home run and an error. The Bison took advantage of another WIU mistake as a balk gave them a 6-5 lead. Jackson Gray (1-0) earned his first career victory as he threw two full innings and struck out three hitters. Austin Edwards entered the ninth and earned his team-leading third save.

WIU began the late rally and loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth. Kevin Raisbeck came through in the clutch and singled up the middle to retake the lead, 7-6. Olsen continued the push and added two insurance runs with a single that brought in Derek Botaletto and Luke Schwartz

On Deck | The Leathernecks conclude the 12-game homestand against Oral Roberts next weekend (April 1-3).
