Headlines
  • After throwing a complete-game shutout at SLU on Saturday, Chandler Fochs was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week on Monday (March 16). The honor was the first of his career, as the last WIU complete-game shutout was in 2014
  • Johnny Beck will make his third start of the season vs. SIUE.
  • The all-time series against the Cougars is 37-39-1 with WIU holding a 10-8 record on the road.
  • Upperclassmen - Kevin Raisbeck (.353/15), Trenton Bauer (.311/14), and Alex Dorethy (.289/13) rank 1-3 on the team in both categories - batting average and hits.
  • Relievers Brian Raymond (13) and Jack Carberry (11) both have recorded double-digit strikeouts.
  • At Saint Louis over the weekend, Kory Olsen finished the series batting .500 (3-6) while Chase VanDerGinst hit his first career home run, and David Olejnik collected his first career hit.
  • The Leathernecks upset No. 4 Louisville 8-3 in the season opener to give head coach Andy Pascoe his first career victory. The most recent win over a ranked opponent occurred at No. 24 Iowa in 2015, and the Leathernecks also notably defeated No. 1 Arkansas on opening weekend in 2013. Fellow Summit League schools - Omaha and Oral Roberts have also beat ranked opponents this season.
  • Head coach Andy Pascoe enters his second season at the helm of Western Illinois and is currently the third youngest head coach in Division I baseball.
  • Prior to the start of the season, Trenton Bauer was named a Summit League Player to Watch, and Austin Edwards was selected as a Summit League Pitcher to Watch.
Scouting the Opposition | SIUE is 6-6 overall with a 1-2 mark in conference play… WIU serves as the second Summit League opponent as they swept South Dakota State earlier this March… the Cougars are in the midst of an eight-game homestand that includes a 5-2 record… opponents are hitting .229 against SIUE pitchers, which is the lowest in the OVC.

Last Time Out | WIU dropped the final non-league series against SLU over the weekend. The Leathernecks fell in its third consecutive walk-off in the series opener but then bounced back behind Fochs to shut out the Billikens 11-0 and force a rubber match. A quick start by Saint Louis and some WIU errors lifted them to win the series.

On Deck | WIU hosts its Summit League and home opener versus North Dakota State on March 19-21. Friday's (March 19) will be a doubleheader with game one at noon.
