First Pitch | The Western Illinois prepares for it's final weekend series before Summit League play at Saint Louis this weekend. WIU's final non-league game is at SIUE on Tuesday (March 16). 

Tickets / COVID-19 Protocols | At SLU, fans are permitted at the Billiken Sports Complex. Admission is free and seating in the bleachers is limited due to COVID protocols. 

Headlines 
  • Seniors Trenton Bauer and Kevin Raisbeck are the team-leaders in .avg (.353) and hits (12) Alex Dorethy sits in second with 10 and .324. The trio have started all nine games this season. 
  • In his first career start, freshman Jacob Greenan pitch four innings and limited Illinois State to one hit with four strikeouts and no earned runs on Tuesday. 
  • Freshman Will Jaynes pitched two shutout frames with a strikeout in relief at Illinois State. 
  • After starting 0-14 this season, Diego Munoz hit the first Leatherneck home run of the season at ISU. 
  • The Leathernecks and Billikens last met in 2019 with WIU winning the series on the road. 
  • WIU trails in the all-time series 22-24 against SLU.
  • Raisbeck has knocked 23 career multi-hit games and fourth this season. 
  • This season, Bauer has started at DH, catcher and made a relief appearance at Louisville.
  • The Leathernecks upset No. 4 Louisville 8-3 in the season opener to give head coach Andy Pascoe his first career victory. The most recent win over a ranked opponent occurred at No. 24 Iowa in 2015, and the Leathernecks also notably defeated No. 1 Arkansas on opening weekend in 2013.
  • Head coach Andy Pascoe enters his second season at the helm of Western Illinois and is currently the third youngest head coach in Division I baseball. 
  • Prior to the start of the season, Trenton Bauer was named a Summit League Player to Watch, and Austin Edwards was selected as a Summit League Pitcher to Watch.  
Scouting the Opposition | WIU will serve as the third Summit League opponent SLU plays against… Saint Louis dropped a 2-1 midweek vs. Mizzou on Wednesday… Friday's starter on the mound, Matt Boyer, is the reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week after he went 6.0 scoreless innings in the Billikens' 8-1 win over Kansas last Friday… the Atlantic 10 foe is looking to win its first series of the year. 

Last Time Out | A pair of freshmen shined on the mound in a Tuesday (March 9) night midweek battle between Western Illinois (2-7) and Illinois State (4-6).
 
The Leathernecks fell 1-2 in a walk-off against the Redbirds in the 10th inning as WIU has fallen in back-to-back walk-offs

Western outhit the in-state rival 8-4 as Trenton Bauer and Kevin Raisbeck knocked their team-leading 12th hit. Chase VanDerGinst knocked two, including a bunt single in the third. WIU had its best chance to retake the lead in the seventh as they had runners on first and third, but a double play ended the threat.  

On Deck | A midweek contest at SIUE (March 16) serves as the final non-league game before hosting it's Summit League opener against North Dakota State next weeknd in a four-game series.
