Western’s DMR Strikes Gold at Summit League Championships

Logan Lommel, Lucas Hofer, Richard Brown, and Ackeen Colley are Summit League champions in the distance medley relay.

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Western Illinois track and field program struck gold at The Summit League Track & Field Championships presented by The U.S. Air Force Special Warfare. And the first-place medal by the men's distance medley relay was made sweeter by the pieces of history attached to it. Logan Lommel, Lucas Hofer, Richard Brown, and Ackeen Colley won the event in 10:02.56, which also stands as the second-fastest time in WIU's indoor history.

The 'Top 10' of Western's DMR list hadn't previously been touched in the last 11 years and the four-some are the first Leathernecks to win the event at the conference meet. 

The two-day championship meet began Saturday (Feb. 27) and saw the Leathernecks achieve eight personal records and two event wins. Colley made his Summit League debut in the 800-meter run prelims, where he (1:53.29 ) and Richard Brown (1:54.00) finished 1-2, respectively, for the third-straight meet. The duo will join Lucas Hofer (1:54.22) in the finals Saturday at 2:40 p.m. 

Day two of the championships start with field events at 11:30 a.m. Track events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
