WIU Track Recap Jimmy Grant

Western Illinois Track and Field Opened the Indoor Season Friday at the Jimmy Grant Invitational

MACOMB, IL- Western Illinois track and field opened the indoor season Friday at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in Iowa City with a limited showing due to winter weather conditions.

Junior Matthew Thomas was the lone Leatherneck to compete, lining up in the men's heptathlon 60-meter on Friday afternoon. Thomas posted a personal best time of 7.46 seconds, finishing sixth overall in the event and earning 726 points toward the heptathlon standings.

Following Friday's competition, Western Illinois did not travel for the remainder of the meet on Saturday as weather conditions impacted travel plans across the region.

The Leathernecks will now look ahead to the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on January 23.
