Pair Of Leathernecks Break Personal Records At Bradley Pink Classic

Paulina Wuestefeld and Mackenzie Goldring both set new personal records in the final regular season meet.

Peoria, Ill.- The Western Illinois Cross Country team competed in its final regular season meet as they took part in the Bradley Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley University. The men's team competed in an 8k race, consisting of 31 teams, and placed 31 overall. The women's team also placed 31, but their 6k race consisted of 37 teams. "I'm really proud of the way the team competed today. Paulina and Mackenzie led our women's team with huge personal bests," said head coach Trey Brokaw. "Habibu and Ackeen led our men's team. It should be exciting to see how we do in two weeks at the Summit League Championships."
 
The women's team added two more impressive performances to their season, after they saw Paulina Wuestefeld and Mackenzie Goldring both set new personal records in a 6k event. Wuestefeld led the Leathernecks with a new personal best to place 114 overall (22:42.6). Goldring finished with a new personal best place 139 overall for WIU's second best finish of the meet (22:56.9). Goldring knocked over a minute off her previous best 6k race from back in 2019 at the WIU Early Bird Invite.
 
The men's team was led by Habibu Moise who had his best 8k time with WIU to place 139 overall (25:39.7). The men's team also saw participation from Ackeen Colley. After being sidelined for the first three meets of the season, Colley finished 179 overall to finish with the second best time for the Leathernecks (26:18.2).
 
Nebraska took first place in the women's race and Wichita State took first in the men's race.

The cross country team now has its eyes set on the Summit League Championships that will take place Oct. 30 in Tulsa, Okla.
