Leathernecks Fall in Game Two at Lindsey Nelson Stadium

Tennessee defeated Western 19-0 on Saturday (Feb. 15).

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Volunteers (2-0) took game two of the series and defeated the Western Illinois baseball team (0-2) 19-0 on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon.

UT loaded the bases with no outs on starter Jace Warkentien (0-1) in the fifth. The southpaw nearly sneaked out of the threat, but a two-out poke gave away to a six-run inning and required Parker Heidorf to finish the frame. The Volunteers added to the damage with three runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh.

In his first at-bat as a Leatherneck, Tyler Estes hit a leadoff single in the third that turned into a basses load opportunity with two outs, but the Vols maneuvered out of the threat.

Tennessee plated two runs through the two innings from a balk and two-out single to lead 2-0. Both Jack Bell and Brian Raymond made their WIU debuts in relief.

Western Illinois will look to avoid the series sweep tomorrow with first pitch at noon and Jack Carberry on the mound.

Notes
  • In their first at-bats as a Leatherneck, Tyler Estes and Gage Cruz each knocked a single.
  • Western falls to 0-2 in the all-time series.
  • Kevin Raisbeck stole two bases to tie his career-high, which was set at Purdue Fort Wayne (May 17) last year.
  • Through the first two games, 10 student-athletes have made their Western Illinois debuts.
