Big Meet Results in Big Rankings

The Leathernecks set three new all-time rankings at the GVSU Big Meet.

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Success is contagious, and apparently so is setting all-time marks. Just ask the Western Illinois track and field program.

Allie Scott, Johnny Dickson, and Bo Brasseur became the latest Leathernecks to create history, and Scott added a little extra oomph by collecting first win of the season. The magical showings occurred at the Grand Valley State Big Meet – Friday (Feb. 14).

Western Illinois finished the day with three podium finishes, two of which occurred in the triple jump where Scott came out on top with an 11.74-meter showing. The effort sits sixth all-time on the women's indoor list.

Equally, as impressive where Dickson's numbers in the 600-meter run. His previous PR hovered around Western's 'Top 10,' and he finally cracked the rankings for a third-place time of 1:22.66. Tony Taylor (1:21.01) and Aaron DiVirgilio (1:22:52) have secured the top two spots since 1993 and 1998, respectively, and just a week ago, Lucas Hofer (1:23.46) etched his name at fifth all-time.

As an accomplished long jumper, Brasseur put forth a second-place performance at GVSU, but it was her 200-meter run that shook up WIU's rankings. Seventy-five others competed in the race, and she clocked in at 39th with a time of 25.42 (fifth all-time in Leatherneck history).

Western will continue its stay in Allendale for the GVSU Big Meet – Saturday.
