The Western Illinois women's cross country team finds itself back on the All-Academic Team list as the top squad in the Midwest region.

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois women's cross country team has been recognized as one of the top All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), for their work in the classroom.

The Leathernecks accumulated a 3.87 team grade point average in the fall, which was the third best out of 237 teams. The mark was the highest in not only the Summit League, but also the Midwest.

"I couldn't be prouder of our women's team for their academic success," cross country coach Brandon Hazouri said. "A lot of them are in some really challenging majors and for them to collectively have that level of grade point average while balancing 6 a.m. practice, weights and traveling really says a lot about their work ethic. Being number one in the Midwest region and number three in the NCAA is something I look forward to being able to brag about on their behalf."

Georgia State earned the distinction of 2019 Division I Scholar Team of the Year.
