Beebe Snags 'Top-10' Finish to Pace Leathernecks

Nicole Beebe and Quintin Thurman both recorded personal records at the NIU Huskie Challenge

DEKALB, Ill. – Nicole Beebe notched another 'Top-10' finish to lead the Western Illinois women's cross country team while Quintin Thurman paced the men's squad again at the NIU Huskie Challenge on Friday (Sept. 6).

Western's women maneuvered the North 40 Course to a seventh-place finish while Northern Illinois won the nine-team 6K race.

Beebe took home 10th place with a time of 22:53.9, while Hailey Tranchitella crossed the finish line in 50th at 24:41.7. She was followed by Elyse Mathews (25:45.2) and a pack of Leathernecks that includes Mackenzie Goldring (26:12.9), Kaitlyn Mathews (26:26.6) and Jacey Roper (26:45.7).
 
Nessrine Zbeeb (28:38.9) set a personal record in her young career to round out the Western Illinois lineup.  
 
Central Michigan won the men's 8K race with a balanced lineup. Thurman cracked the 'Top-50' with a personal best of 28:41.2 over the course. Kameron Morgan was three spots behind running a time of 29:09.5. Fellow freshman Isaiah Moorman (29:31.5), Ross Smetzer (29:40.2) and Lucas Howett (29:47.9) completed the pack.
 
The final two runners for the Leathernecks were Cayson Frerichs (PR, 31:56.1) and Lucas Hofer (37:03.7).

After a two-week hiatus, Western continues the 2019 season at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday, Sept. 20 in Peoria, Ill.
