Undefeated No. 19 Missouri State Tops Leathernecks

Tim Trilk becomes ninth all-time in saves in the first half.

MACOMB, Ill. - The Undefeated No. 19 Missouri State Bears (7-0-0) stayed hot on the pitch this season in a 4-0 defeat of the Western Illinois men's soccer team (0-8-0) on Thursday (Sept. 26) evening.

After Tim Trilk cracked the top 10 in program history in saves and passed his formed high school goalkeepers coach, the senior moved up another spot. He notched career save 163 to move past Chris Frenz (2002-05). Trilk now chases Jacob Gutierrez (1999-01) for eighth all-time in saves (189).

For the second straight Missouri state made the United Coaches Top-25 Poll coming in a No. 19 in the latest poll on Tuesday (Sept. 24). The Bears took a 1-0 lead after quick back-to-back passes found Nicolo Mulatero in the 9th minute.

Missouri State pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute on a cross in the box that found Ben Stroud. Stroud added his second goal of the match at the 69-minute mark when he got his own rebound off the crossbar. The final goal of the game came Josh Dolling (85') who scored his team-leading fifth goal.

Into the second half, Seanan Main checked in and made his home debut at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. The freshman notched his first career save as a Leatherneck at the 64th minute.

The Bears backline held Western to six total shots. Xavier Brown and Daniel McIntosh sparked energy off the bench. The duo each had a shot on goal in the first half but was saved by the Missouri State goalkeeper.

Western Illinois regroups and battles Northern Illinois tomorrow at John MacKenzie Alumni Field with kick-off set for 1 p.m.
