The Junior forward earned his second Summit League honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— After an All-Summit League Second Team selection last season, Western Illinois men's soccer student-athlete Paul Kirdorf has been named a Summit League Player to Watch, the league announced Monday (Aug. 19)

"Paul had a tremendous season last fall for us," said Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson. "We are counting on him to do the same this year. I think he is one of the top right-backs in the Midwest and deserves the recognition."

A total of seven student-athletes were named to the list based on nominations by each team's head coach.

Kirdorf, a junior midfielder is one of five key returners for the Leathernecks this season as he finished with a team-high in points (7) and assists (3) while starting all 14 matches. He scored his first career goal for the Purple and Gold against Bowling Green State (Sept. 2, 2018) and then later successfully converted a penalty kick. The Kaub, Germany native also helped the Leatherneck defense record four shutouts during the 2018 campaign en route to being the team leader in shots on goal (10).

Western was picked to finish fifth in the Summit League this year. They will open up the slate with a pair of exhibition matches at home versus Illinois-Springfield (Aug. 21) and Quincy (Aug. 24), then trekking up north to begin the regular season at Milwaukee (Aug. 30).
