Brasseur Qualifies for NCAA West Prelim

The 2019 Summit League gold medalist is heading to the NCAA West Prelims.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois' indoor and outdoor long jump record holder, Bo Brasseur, is heading to the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary. The qualification marks back-to-back postseason appearances for the Leathernecks.

"I'm excited. This is my first time going [to the west prelim]," said Brasseur. "I was injured at the end of my freshman year and it carried over to my sophomore, so this is my first full year of jumping. I'm excited to go and that my parents are going to come too!"

The track and field prelim is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, and will take place in Sacramento, Calif., on the campus of California State University. The long jump event begins at 8:45 p.m. CT.

Brasseur is currently ranked No. 24 in the west, 46th in the nation, with a long jump of 6.25 meters (20' 6.25"). She recorded the mark at the Tom Botts Invitational (April 20) --- one of six first-place performances on the year -- before cementing the regular season with a gold medal at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Top 12 finishers at the prelim will punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 5-8.
