A Race to the Finish

The Leathernecks’ final regular season series will have major Summit League implications.

Race to the Finish: The Leathernecks' final Summit League series will have significant postseason implications in the race to secure a spot in the upcoming championship tournament. Only the top four teams in league standings will advance.

Part One:The Leathernecks swept PFW at home earlier this season by scores of 14-4, 4-2, and 10-0. The outing marked back-to-back league sweeps for team, the first under the direction of head coach Ryan Brownlee, as Western delivered Oral Roberts its first-ever in league play a week prior.
 
Western's Last Outing: Western has back-to-back Summit League series wins under its belt in a pair of 2-1 sets against Omaha and Omaha. The latter recently visited Alfred D. Boyer Stadium and lost 5-0 and 8-5, after taking game one by a score of 4-3 in 10 innings.
  • Diego Munoz and Kevin Raisbeck each tallied a team-high four hits, Munoz with the lone home run of the series
  • Right-handed pitcher Connor Rektorski recorded his first collegiate win behind a career-high four innings in the eight-inning, 8-5 victory; he didn't surrender a single run in the appearance while striking out three
  • Javin Drake pitched the complete game shutout
Once, Twice, Three Times The Pitcher of the Week: No. 42 Javin Drake is currently ranked No. 21 in all of Division I baseball with 101 strikeouts. This past weekend, Western Illinois' right-handed pitcher fanned seven in a complete game shutout over Omaha, and with the success, came his third career Summit League Pitcher of the Week honor (May 13).

Streaks: Kevin Raisbeck has reached base in 22 consecutive games, which is the Leathernecks' longest streak since former catcher Adam McGinnis recorded 27 back in 2017.
 
Next Up: The Summit League Tournament begins Wednesday, May 22, and will stretch through Saturday, May 25.
