Busch Breaks Own School Record

It took less than a year for Busch to break her outdoor heptathlon record.

MACOMB, Ill. –  If there's a school record, the Western Illinois track and field team is looking to break it which is precisely what Michaela Busch did at the Drake Relays.

Busch was the first of three to take to Drake Stadium Thursday (April 25) where she completed the remaining events in her heptathlon. Left on the docket was the long jump (5.46 meters / 17-11), javelin (28.83, 94-7) and 800-meter run (2:25.27) and she finished sixth, ninth, and sixth, respectively, to place fifth overall.

With the top four unattached, Busch was the best collegiate athlete in the field with 5,009 points and the mark broke her previous outdoor school record (4,945) set at the Summit League Championships a year ago.

The Leathernecks also sent two compete in the 10,000-meter run where Lucas Lingle shaved nearly 49 seconds off of his previous personal record with a time of 31:59.63. Nicole Beebe represented the women in the event in 39:11.65.

Day three of the three-day Drake Relays will begin Friday with Josh Kirby taking on the 110-meter hurdles at 12:25 p.m. Across town, Western also concludes its appearance in the Kip Janvrin Open with field events starting at noon and track at 1 p.m.
